Tickets für Bantunagojêje 24.02.24 in Berlin, Schokoladen
BANTUNAGOJÊJE Afro-Brazilian diaspora sound. Fela Kuti's afrobeat meets jazz in downtown Salvador. An invitation to a dialogue between bodies, identities and grooves. Imagined in Berlin by Bahia's own, saxophonist Paulo Cedraz.
"Bantunagojêje are an energetic force that need to be seen as well as heard" - Exberliner Magazine
In addition to many influences such as Afrobeat, Fusion Jazz and Funk, the bands' sound is mainly characterized by the rhythms of the Afro- Brazilian religion of Candomblé. The three components of the band name BANTU, NAGÔ and JÊJE refer to the three largest groups of Candomblé while also referencing the African peoples who originated it. A diverse musical family comprised of Latinxs, Blacks, whites, females, males, queer, non-Europeans, as well as European individuals. Bantunagojêje is a plural space where everyone is invited to a conscious celebration, a catharsis and an exercise of radical imagination and open questioning. Besides the full formation comprised of 9 musicians, the band also plays with a 6-piece outfit in smaller venues.
