Café Chocolat, is a new music series and community building event created by Melissa Perales (M:Soundtrack, Durchlüften, Music Pool Berlin) and Batila (the Dream bus, BantuSoul Allstars). We aim at celebrating and supporting local talents and newcomer black and brown artists & DJ’s within the diaspora of Germany’s communities. Our main thesis is that when communities are supported and treated fairly they will thrive. This includes everyone from the artists on stage, to the door person or the sound engineer - We believe with more emphasis on “all of us”, we can create a more equitable event and make a contribution to our music scene. Please come out and support our efforts so we can continue this event!

Concept of the evening: The Dream Bus takes you on a musical journey performing their music (The members are from all over the world and their sound reflects this) AND jumping on an off the Bus are guests who will perform 2-3 songs each to give us a taste of their work, showcasing the amazing artists, poets, dancers and or multi-instrumentalists of the community! and we will always provide continued good music after the live show with a DJ who will bring it all together. When possible food will be available for sale outside the venue and special drinks on the menu at the bar.

Welcome to our table - the "Cafe CHOCOLAT STORE" will be available from this evening on with artists merchandise, perhaps clothing and craftwork or food. Our evening supports our community and we hope you feel welcome and join us in lifting everyone up!

Otis Mensah is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist whose work spans across fields of literature and sound, exploring the aesthetic fabric of language and cadence to evoke ethereal portraits of the body, family and notions of the Black church. Drawing inspiration from a rich lineage of sampling as an approach to their poetic-sonic practice, Otis derives musicality and multidimensional text from childhood, dreaming and nature. Otis has had a diverse calibre of experience in contemporary art both as artist and curator; publishing their poetry collection Safe Metamorphosis with Prototype London, debuting at Glastonbury Music Festival, performing alongside the likes of Moor Mother, Benjamin Zephaniah and Little Simz and working with a range of galleries and festivals across Europe.

Concerned with an Abstractionist approach to language, Otis’ practice draws vitally from the likes of Norman Lewis and Jack Whitten, examining vivid experimentation with the materiality of paint as technique and lens for approaching text. Otis’ writing exalts the materiality of words to reveal a larger emotional landscape. By queering and subverting biblical language and parable, Otis exercises magical realism in their work, muddying the waters of memory and archival material with myth and portrayals of a Black diaspora. #Poetry #Avant-garde #Hiphop #Rap #Jazz    https://otismensah.bandcamp.com

Regis Molina is an energetic saxophonist and band-leader. With his bands he also is on a quest for the spiritual values within the music. In the Cuban culture music, dance and spirituality are interconnected to each other, principles that Molina translates to thru his music: ”You can´t really separate them from each other and I think about this in my playing and writing. I first learned how to dance rather than to play music, so I guess that’s why I love to have a sense of ’dancing’ in my body while I’m playing. It helps me to connect and interact more with other subtle elements in the music. Then I try to make them all sound like mine.“

His passion and dedication to music has seen him receive several awards as well as share the stage and the studio worldwide with several renowned musicians and bands, such as Ojos de Brujo, Aloe Blacc, Jimi Tenor, Tony Allen, Chucho Valdez, Stars of Buena Vista Social Club, Afrocuban Allstars, Helene Fischer and Samy DeLuxe. https://regismolina.bandcamp.com/album/sanga-abaku
