n June 2023, marcel served up a charivari of chaos and upheaval, an incoherent and bestial celebration of life.

It was good, but too broad.

While the Belgian group has not managed to produce the famous album 'de la maturité' (of maturity), they instead persist in building a bridge between the sublime and the ridiculous. A formula that seems to work, as their first album traveled as far as the specialised Belgian, Dutch, French and Italian magazines, as well as the seasoned ears of indie gurus Steve Lamacq (BBC) and Kevin Cole (KEXP).
'ô fornaiz' is their second album entirely produced and mixed by Ben Hampson (DITZ, Lambrini Girls, etc.).

Staged in its most abstract form ('basho basho basho'), concrete ('innersummer'), psychological ('spirit of eden hazard kicking ball boy') and poetic ('sulf'), fire spreads through each of the 11 songs of 'ô fornaiz'. A title that expresses both the terror and sacred awe that fire inspires in mankind, ancient as well as modern.

'ô fornaiz' was born as a dense, incoherent musical work, like the first fires tamed by earthlings, who assimilated them into an element that is both destructive and purifying.
The result here is music that can be broadly categorised as 'garage-noise-punk': the punk base is enriched with forms and sounds from classical music ('allegro barbaro'), jungle ('st glin glin'), dub ('manu militari') or psychedelia ('sulf').

The influences are wide-ranging, old, smoky, and fiery, like the hearth on which marcel has placed his cooking pot these last two years: The Ex, Nina Hagen, This Heat, Catherine Ringer, Jacques Dutronc, Blacklisters, Arno, Jesus Lizard, Can, Nico, Nino Ferrer, Kim Gordon, Amon Tobin, Swans, Béla Bartók, Kurt Weill, Yolande Moreau, Happy Mondays, and even the latest Talk Talk albums.
